Do you like to communicate with your friends, with strangers and colleagues? Websites by their very nature are primarily a form of communication. If someone writes something down on a website, chances are, somebody else will read it. Of course the real trick when it comes down to website design and development is the delivery of this information and that is where blogging comes in to view.
The term ‘blogging’ may be a term you’ve heard of but never really understood. A blog is just a type of website and is derived from the blending of two words ‘Web’ and ‘Blog’ and primarily focuses on the user adding content to his or her account.
We at Fluid Digital can many types of blogging (there is more than way to do it) and we’ll go through a few examples. All blogging software that we use and recommend do things a little differently and each has its own advantages and disadvantages
Here are some of the different blogging options:
Wordpress (privately hosted) – i.e. websitedesign.com
We offer full word press site integration and customisation. We have created many Wordpress sites for many clients and they offer a great range of features to the people that use them. One of the big advantages of using blogging software is the community that backups the Wordpress software, it has thousands of plugins, many of which are free to use and can be installed in moments.
If you’re full motivation is to produce a blog that just is about communicating and performs and number of fancy functions, then we would recommend that you let us build you a Wordpress blog. We can integrate with your website design and branding like any normal website, so you don’t have to worry about that.
Blogger – i.e. websitedesign.blogspot.com
We couldn’t really talk about ‘blogging’ without mentioning Blogger – courtesy of Google. This differs a great deal from the Wordpress solution in that the Blog will be hosted on the Google’s blogspot.com server.
The upsides to this option is that the posts that enter on to this server seem to be picked up quicker when it produces it’s search engine results pages as they can crawl and scan the content quicker than when it is on a separate domain. The other big advantages is how easy it is to integrate adsense (and other Google products) in to the blog and can be done seamlessly in just a few clicks.
There are some down sides to this solution though as you do not have as much control of the functionality of the blog, though Google has made some great improvements to this with their recently launched template designer which has made it easier for website designers to integrate branding and themes.
Wordpress.com blog – i.e. websitedesign.wordpress.com
Another option is to use a wordpress.com which is a sort of combination of the two previously mentioned. Of course it does have its own set of draw backs. It’s much harder to add advertisements on Wordpress.com so if making money from your blog is a big issue the you will be well advised to stay away from this option.
As website designers we can help customise the look of your Wordpress.com blog to the nth degree but we have to do it within the confines of the Wordpress templates. You can now run as a VIP member, running Ad-code, PHP and many other benefits, though this is a little pointless, if you want this much use, then it would be more beneficial to run one as a separate site.
